I guess no one really liked my Crysis Post. It’s an incredible game!... no matter..
2 days ago I went to Hawalli with my friend to shop around for computer parts, I just received a half PC from my friend, missing on that PC was a PSU (Power Supply Unit), DVD Drive, Video Card, & a Hard Disk specifically SATA one.
I went to Hawalli with my friend keeping in mind that I will buy only these stuff, just enough to run that PC. But I ended up spending a lot of money on unwanted crap. Me + Hawalli = Disaster.
First of all, I bought the necessary items needed to start working on the half PC that my friend gave me, but then I got greedy, I have a 40” Full High Definition Sony Bravia, it had 2 HDMI (High Definition Media Interface) Ports, and I was wondering if I only can connect my gaming PC to an HDMI Port, I would get a 1080p resolution over a 40” and I thought immediately of CRYSIS OVER 1080p WOULD RULE.
So I went ahead and bought an DVI to HDMI converter. And since my Gaming PC was a bit far from my Bravia, I decided to get a 4 meters DVI to DVI extender. I bought a very expensive one since I needed a gold plated wire to get a strong signal, specially over 5 meter long distance. I ended up wasting 80KD, and went home after prayer and a delicious meal in Peps Pizza with my friend GunSpeed who treated me. Thanks mate, that pizza was delicious. Also the garlic bread.. damn I never ate one like that before, guess we were cheated with crappy breads from Pizza Hut. Lol.
Anyway. I returned home with a “Time to do Some Computer installation“face on myself. Ready my tools and brought down the PC, opened up all the packages I got, and started working on it. After I completed the installation, I ran the PC over my Bravia using the Bravia’s PC input. Ran like a charm with no problems at all. Except that Sony Bravia PC input had a Maximum Resolution of 1360x768x32. And of course, the resolution whore that I am, I wanted more. So I took out my new DVI to HDMI converter! And tried to hook it to my TV. But sadly the converter was so big, I couldn’t fit in the bravia HDMI Port. The converter was huge. And stupidly Sony decided to put the HDMI Ports Sideways and restricted it with a square that is heading inside the back Panel of the TV.
I went angry because that freaking HDMI to DVI Converter cost me about 16KD. It was gold plated and it looked really nice, I went to Hawalli again in anger searching for an HDMI to DVI Wire. If it’s a wire, it will fit into the back panel of the Bravia without a problem, I found one and paid a freaking 33 KD for it, it was gold plated as well, and long, 4 Meters.
I went back in a hurry to test it on the New PC that I had. Plugged it in, started the PC, worked. I immediately ran the video card driver’s suit to adjust the TV resolution, I went up to 1080p, and when I clicked Apply, the TV screen reported a 1080p Signal out of that lame 14KD Geforce video card. I went so happy and I tested the movie 300. Sadly the picture quality did not match the one that I had using the bravia PC input. Though it was low resolution. But I intended to keep it that way, it’s a waste to not use a 33kd wire hehe.
I then got greedy. Hehe. I hooked the same Wire into my Crossfire Dongle from my Gaming PC. Enabled Crossfire. And ran Crysis on 1080p. IT SUCKED. I was so shocked, I closed it and unhooked the Gaming PC, returned it to the new PC. Fired up the new PC, and was shocked again with the Bravia isn’t outputting any picture.
I panicked. I thought the PC went dead!. I unhooked the PC and immediately hooked the PS3 HDMI port, and it won’t start. Bravia HDMI Port 2 Died. I took a moment of silent and calmed down. Thinking “ That can’t be right… I did not do anything to damage the port.. it is not possible to actually damage the HDMI Port that easily.” . Then the shock stroked me at that time, and I realized that my new 40” Sony Bravia which cost me 900 KD DIED.
I went crazy over the MSN on Bojacob and GunSpeed screaming for help, poor guys were helping me with a lot of solutions; I did them all but nothing happened. Thanks guys! and sorry for crying all over your MSN.
After some time of trial and error, I concluded that HDMI Port 2 is officially dead. And of course, I blamed myself for being such an idiot and greedy. I hooked the new PC back to its PC port, fired it up, and looked at the screen crying. I stopped thinking for about 2 hours, crying on my HDMI-2’s death. I traced my steps, one by one, I can’t find any step that I made wrong. HDMI Ports cannot just die.
The next morning I phoned SONY, explained what happened, I had a warranty on that huge TV, they came to inspect it, after a lot of lame idiotic engineering by their side, they concluded that HDMI-2 is dead and will take it for repairs. They took my Bravia, and my heart was taken with it. I cried as if my Precious Bravia enters the service center. And wished it all the luck to get repaired and back to me for some massive anime watching.
Moral of this Post.
Do Not Get Greedy.
Do Not Get Greedy.
Do Not Get Greedy.
Read the Manual First (that is directed to the lame SONY Idiots who came).
Never take a chance with 900 KD equipment.
Thank God of what you have.
It’s good to experiment; I love it, but don’t do it on a 900 KD equipment.
EDIT #1:-
Sony returning the TV to me by the end of this day without fixing it, they said the board was fried and its going to take 20-30 days to order from japan. sigh =_=; I'll need to wait 20-30 days till the board comes, but at least I will have my TV in the mean time.
